About the artist:
Jacek Yerka, born Jacek Kowalski in 1952 in Toruń, Poland, is a celebrated surrealist painter known for his fantastical and meticulously detailed works. Yerka grew up in an artistic family, with both parents being graduates of a local fine art academy. He studied fine art and graphic design at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, where he resisted contemporary trends in favor of a classic Flemish technique.
Yerka’s paintings often feature whimsical landscapes, extraordinary architecture, and surreal creatures, drawing inspiration from his childhood memories and dreams. His work is influenced by masters like Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, and Jan van Eyck. In 1995, Yerka received the prestigious World Fantasy Award for Best Artist.
His art has been exhibited internationally, including in Poland, Germany, France, and the United States. Yerka continues to live and work in Poland, creating pieces that captivate and inspire viewers with their imaginative and otherworldly qualities.
